STEP #1 – CREATING YOUR PLAN

As you create your personal plan, think in terms of a one year promotion. Then section it into prepublication, when the book is available and the follow through after the initial introduction of the book. The most important thing is to select your target market and focus on how to most effectively reach that group.

At this point in the marketing plan, you have a strategy for the market that you want to reach. Now is the time to focus on the groups or organizations that will bring you in contact with your target audience. Below is a list of possible connections.

STEP #4 – THE PROMOTION PLANNING

One of the first things to do before you contact your database is to display the book on your website with information on preordering your book. The next thing to do is to prepare an e-mail signature something like: co-author in the # 1 best selling Wake Up…Live the Life You Love book series.

When you contact a group or organization, always talk in terms of how you can help them. In many cases, you will be helping the program chairman to fill their speaking slots. They will be very excited to have you the first time and to return at a later date if you generate new traffic to their store.

If you can fashion your remarks to help them with their challenges I their life, it will go a long ways to making a connection with them and helping them to see a benefit to them for contacting you to do business with you.

As a topic selection and during your presentation, you can talk about how to live the life you love, how to get what you want out of life, how to achieve with teamwork and the power of networking. These are your experiences relating to the teamwork of being in the book as a co-author. All of these will be interesting to your audience and you can talk about your life and story as it relates to your book project.

STEP #5 – TAKING ACTION

Taking action can be in several areas including e-mail campaigns, postcards, letters, on the phone and personal contact. All of these can be very effective especially when used as a combination approach.

We will start with the telephone. Getting on the phone and talking with complete strangers doesn’t get a lot of people very excited. Once you realize how interested people are in what you have to offer, you will begin to look forward to it. Phoning becomes overwhelming if you leave it to the last minute. Most groups and organizations have to plan their guest speakers well in advance so it is CRITICAL that you begin the phone calling immediately to build momentum for your book. The success of any plan is consistency and ongoing action. If everything is left to the last week or even a month before the book comes out, you increase your chances of not being able to have your events because there simply just isn’t enough time to schedule them.

When you make a call you must present yourself and the book confidently as though this is a very special event. Don’t sound desperate to get the speaking engagement.

STEP #6 - FOLLOWING THROUGH

Remember that once an event or promotion is over, it is really just the beginning of planning the next promotion. If someone has purchased a book (without even having a book to purchase) they are your best source of future business. Sending out thank you letters and then offering to speak at their event, is a great way to get more speaking engagements and exposure for you and your business.
